"All Henry de Triqueti's tastes and aptitudes drew him to the great masters of the Italian Renaissance." (Quote from Charles Clément in the Journal des Débats reported by Girardot, 1874).
This marble bust, subtly combining ideal neoclassical beauty and fresh naturalism, is a veritable ode to the Italian culture that inspired Henry de Triqueti throughout his career.
In an article by Sylvain Bellenger, the work is entitled "Portrait de Blanche Triqueti" (ill. 5, p. 188). The general aesthetic of the work is rather similar to the portrait-medallion of Florence and Alice Campbell produced in the same years 1856-1857 (Projet pour les bustes de Florence et Alice Campbell, 1855, patinated plaster, Montargis, musée Girodet, Portrait médaillon de Florence and Alice Campbell, 1857, signed H. de TRIQUETI; H. 72,5 cm, marble on a rosewood and antique green marble base, H. 113 cm, awaiting export license in the UK) [...].
