Natalia Vladimirovna LIMONT-IVANOV (1862-1944) Abundant correspondence from N. V. Ivanova to Denis Roche between 1899 and 1941, more than 280 letters, postcards and telegrams on over 1,600 pages. Some letters are undated, others incomplete (no beginning and/or no end). Most are in Russian, with occasional inclusions in French, and some in English. Correspondence was intense between 1899 and 1906, interrupted and resumed during the period 1914-1918, then limited to two postcards sent on emigration in 1941. Natalia Vladimirovna was born Treskin, and her brother Vladimir was a teenage friend of the two eldest sons of Leo Tolstoy and Prince Georguy Lvov (president of the provisional government in 1917). She was friends with Fedor Batiushkov, Ilya Tolstoy and frequented the artists of St. Petersburg. In Russia, she goes by the name Limont-Ivanov; she collaborated with Denis Roche as a translator under the name Limont-Saint-Jean. When emigrating to France, she called herself Saint-Jean. These letters tell of herself, her children, friends and relatives, as well as people from the world of art, exhibitions... The letters from 1914 to 1918 give an insight into the situation in Russia during the war and the Bolshevik revolution. A letter and greetings card from his cousin Nadejda Konstantinovna DOUNINE-BORKOVSKY (1861-1928) from 1901. A photograph of N. I. Ivanova from 1924. Letters from Natalia Vladimirovna DALL'ORSO (1898-1979), her niece, 1949-1950. Provenance: Archives of Denis Roche. [Russian art]
