CLAUDE CHAMPY (B. 1944)
Trained in Paris at the École des Arts appliqués et des Métiers d'art, Claude Champy soon asserted a strong, consistent identity that would remain based on simplicity - of form, on the one hand, but also of decoration. Champy adopts a deliberately refined technique, based on stoneware and the use of just two glazes - white and black - sometimes enriched with salt and ash. The result is powerful sculptural and utilitarian works, deeply rooted in the work of the hand, which mirror nature.
