JEANNE GRANDPIERRE (1942-2019) - Lot 89
JEANNE GRANDPIERRE (1942-2019) Vulva Large vase. Stoneware. Circa 1970. SignedGRANDPIERRE under the base. Height: 30cm Provenance: Galerie Terre Moderne - Matthieu Sausverd, Lyon. JEANNE GRANDPIERRE (1942-2019) Jeanne Grandpierre remains an essential, if little-known, figure among the pioneers of La Borne's ceramic revival - along with Jacqueline Lerat, Élisabeth Joulia and Barbara Delfosse. From 1973 to the early 1980s, she lived in this Mecca of post-war ceramics, alongside her partner Alain Girel, and contributed to the village's reputation by co-organizing the first International Ceramics Symposium. This self-taught artist's work in clay is rooted in the shapes of the female body, in all its fragility. Her wood-fired stoneware sculptures feature busts, breasts and vulvas, sometimes deformed or gnawed.
