PIERRE KOPPE (1931-2016) - Lot 126
PIERRE KOPPE (1931-2016) Owl, circa 1960 Piggy bank. Glazed ceramic. Signed P. KOPPE under the base. Height: 15cm - Length: 23cm Provenance: Galerie Carlos Moïta, Paris. PIERRE KOPPE (1931-2016) Painter and ceramist Pierre Koppe trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nancy, before becoming a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Metz - a city where he set up his studio in 1959. Influenced by the work of Jean Derval, his work is also adorned with a subtle irony and a vivid palette, which together give rise to a world of characters and creatures, shaped by highly graphic decorative lines. His ceramic work is a response to his pictorial work - both dominated by a glaring optimism.
