PIERRE MESTRE (1919-2007)
A native of Compiègne, Pierre Mestre grew up in an intellectual environment nourished by books, and trained in painting at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. A stay at La Borne in 1946, followed by the discovery of Paul Beyer's work at an exhibition in Paris, would decide the direction of his work. Marked by stoneware, he divided his life between Paris and La Borne, where he was actively involved in the pottery community. His work ranged from utilitarian pottery to sculptures and architectural elements. He returned to Paris for good in 1977.
