Léonide Charvin, known as Madame AGAR (1838-1891). 5 L.A.S., 1874-1879 and n.d.; 11pages in-8. Bordeaux September 9, 1874, to Édouard Thierry (the former director has her work on her roles). In Bordeaux she played Horace, Britannicus (role of Agrippina) and Iphigénie (role of Clytemnestre). She studied Act I of Bajazet, but waited until she had worked with Thierry before tackling the other acts... - April 7, 1875, to the same address (headed "Représentation du répertoire classique"). She is leaving in a few days, and would like to see Thierry at the Arsenal to work on Phèdre, which she is about to perform. - Geneva, April 26, 1879, to a journalist, rectifying the errors in her article; she clarifies the conditions of her third engagement as a boarder at the Comédie-Française, with the promise of rapid admission to the sociétariat, having to take over Émilie Guyon's roles; she mentions her creation of the role of Mme Bernard in Émile Augier's Les Fourchambault. She was not appointed Sociétaire, despite being defended by Delaunay, and believes that this hostility to her person stems from her participation in a concert at the Tuileries on May 6, 1871, organized by the Commune, during which she sang the Marseillaise... - [Vers 1885] (headed Représentations de Madame Agar de la Comédie française). She asks that her "Dorine corsage" and a white percale headdress she wore in La Glu (by Jean Richepin) be sent to Chalons-sur-Saône as a matter of urgency, as she is performing on Saturday in Chalons... - Tickets sent to François Coppée (vignette with tragic mask).
