Paul CLAUDEL. 2 L.A.S., 1948-1949, to Pierre Brasseur; 1 pag - Lot 84
Paul CLAUDEL. 2 L.A.S., 1948-1949, to Pierre Brasseur; 1 page in-8 each at his address 11, Boulevard Lannes, XVIe. December 18, 1948. The day after the premiere (December 16) at Théâtre Marigny of Partage de Midi, in which Brasseur played Amalric, directed by Jean-Louis Barrault. "Dear collaborator. What a glorious, magnificent male you showed us yesterday! The stage trembled under your feet and the audience screamed with delight. It's a beautiful thing, isn't it, the word, when wielded by the hero Izdubar? All I can think about now is seeing you again in Turelure de l'Otage - a role tailor-made for you - and Pain dur. Thank you, Brasseur!" December 16, 1949. The day after the premiere of Paul Féval's Le Bossu, Claudel expresses his admiration for Pierre Brasseur, who played the title role: "Bravo Brasseur! I'm still very enlightened by last night's fine performance, which my deafness enabled me to enjoy even more, by allowing me to take the necessary scope and reduce the drama to its essential composition. It's wonderful to see the hero of this hunchback spring forth like a deformed bow stretched by the hands of Justice"...
