Marguerite Brunet, known as Mademoiselle MONTANSIER (1730-18 - Lot 242
Marguerite Brunet, known as Mademoiselle MONTANSIER (1730-1820). L.A.S., "la petite Force" prison 27 floréal II (May 16, 1794), to citoyen Giquel; 1 1/2 pages in-4, addressed. Letter from the actress in prison. [La Montansier, who had built the Théâtre National (on the site of Square Louvois) and had been operating it since August 15, 1793, was arrested on November 15, under the false pretext that she could set fire to the Bibliothèque nationale]. She awaits "day by day, our freedom, with the calm of innocence". She talks about her affair with citizen Baron, which she thought was over after the transaction, and for which a sum of a thousand livres had been released. She agrees to give the money and empowers Giquel... [She was not released until September 16, 1794, six weeks after the fall of Robespierre]. Attached is a P.S., August 3, 1816 (1p. obl. in-4), bon à payer de 6000 francs pour les sociétaires du Théâtre des Variétés; in addition to Montansier, signed Amiel, Crétu and Mira Brunet.
