Claude MONET. L.A. (end missing), London March 11, 1901, to his wife Alice; 4pages in-8 headed Savoy Hotel, Embankment Gardens, London. He received her letters, which caused him pain: "your regrets for not hiding J.P.'s illness [Jean-Pierre Hoschedé, Alice's son] from me, your desire to be stronger in the future. No, don't say that, and forgive me for having overshadowed better times for you. We must always tell each other everything but not see things at their worst. So I tell you, I'm not very well, but I'm better than last night and that night of fever and shivering. Please don't be alarmed, as it's nothing, but yesterday after taking that walk I was telling you about, despite the well-being of the fresh air, I realized that I wasn't quite up to it. My legs were aching, especially my calves, which made me think of varicose veins and finally dizziness [...] I was so worried about getting sick here, and worrying you even more, that I couldn't sleep until the morning after taking aconite and arsenic". He sent for the doctor, "who assures me that a rest of 3 to 4 days in the room, putting me to bed at 6 a.m., and that I won't appear again.
