Henry MILLER (1891-1980). L.AS., Big Sur, California May 3, - Lot 488
Henry MILLER (1891-1980). L.AS., Big Sur, California May 3, 1951; 1page in-4 in purple ink; in French. Concerning a reprint of his text on Buñuel's L'Âge d'or, originally published in New Review in Paris in 1931. Miller gives his consent, but also needs the authorization of his publisher Maurice Girodias... "May I ask you to point out to readers the date of this book. The text on Bunuel (who is dear to me - Bunuel himself, I mean) is one of my first writings in Paris. If I had to add a few words today about the film, I'd say that no progress has been made in the direction indicated by L'Âge d'or. I don't think we'll make any real progress in this area until the day we have a new order of (human) society. "Everything we are taught is false", wrote Rimbaud. Paroles justes"... He adds in postscript: "I lived in Clichy - Avenue Anatole France in 1933-34, and have many precious memories of my time there. In Printemps noir you'll find some passages (tender, nostalgic) from those days - the happy days of my life".
