William SMITH (1769-1847) Canadian politician and historian. - Lot 602
William SMITH (1769-1847) Canadian politician and historian. 2 L.A.S., [Quebec City, 1841], to Alexandre Vattemare; 1page in-8 each, in English, addresses. Invitations to the famous philanthropist and impresario during his visit to Quebec City. [Alexandre Vattemare (1796-1864), a ventriloquist, was a pioneer of international cultural exchange; among other things, he brought the Ioway Indians to Paris in 1845; in October 1840, he was in Montreal and, in February 1841, in Quebec City]. Smith here invites Vattemare to spend an evening at his home, and to come for coffee: "My family and myself are more anxious than the pleasure of your company"... Attached is a fragment of a l.a.s. from Dominick Daly (1798-1868), provincial secretary for Canada East and member of the Executive Council (1844, 2p. in-12).
