BALZAC (Honoré de). The Last Incarnation of Vautrin. Paris : Louis Chlendowski, 1848. - 3 volumes in-8, dark brown half-maroquin with corners, gilt fillets, ornate ribbed spine, gilt head, untrimmed (David). Rare first edition of the fourth and final part of "Splendeurs et misères des courtisanes". It was serialized in La Presse in April-May 1847. It is followed by "Une rue de Paris et son habitant", also in first edition. A very fine copy bound by David, untrimmed. Volume 2 (pp. 6-7) lacks the third leaf, including the false title of the part reading: "Première partie. Les Mystères du préau (continued)". Some scattered foxing.
