LE BRAZ (Anatole). - Lot 131
LE BRAZ (Anatole).
La Terre du passé.
Paris : Calmann Lévy, [1902]. - In-18, havana half-maroquin with corners, ribbed spine, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved (P. Affolter).
First edition of this magnificent book in which the author recounts the "trö-breiz", or tour of Brittany, a pilgrimage linking the towns of the seven founding saints of Brittany.
Having fallen into oblivion, this journey has been brought back to light by Le Braz, who recounts its history in this book, along with anecdotes and descriptions. Most of the texts were previously published in the "Journal des Débats".
ONE OF 5 EXEMPLIES ON HOLLAND PAPER, the only edition on large paper (no. 3).
A very well preserved copy, despite the slightly faded spine.
Attached is a L.A.S. from the author, 2 pages in-16, dated August 29, 1924. It is addressed to "Monsieur et cher Président": "No need [...] to concern yourself with any kind of presentation. I have no taste for advertising, in whatever form, however discreet, it may take, and on the other hand, the Nantes public, which has graciously welcomed me on many occasions, knows me well enough, I believe, for me not to need a recommendation from them, in addition to the one already earned by the prestige of your young federation."
