First edition of this rare play by Guy de Maupassant, first performed in 1875 but unpublished during his lifetime. It was only in 1945 that the writer's heirs authorized its publication, in a confidential edition of just 225 copies, expressly intended "for a few bibliophiles". The illustration features two erotic color compositions, the first of which, in the frontispiece, shows a window system. ONE OF 20 EXEMPLIES ON INGRES ROSE (no. 30), the second paper after 10 copies on antique paper. A very well preserved copy. Provenance: N. Harwich, with bookplate.
