SEGALEN (Victor). - Lot 147
SEGALEN (Victor).
Equipée. Voyage au pays du réel.
Paris: La Palatine, Librairie Plon, 1929. - In-8, paperback, embossed orange paper-covered folder, slipcase.
Posthumous first edition, published by Jean Lartigue.
"Previously mentioned, as early as 1914, in a note in Feuilles de route that announced the plan, Equipée - whose title "is underlined by irony, without prejudging the result" - is a work that blends evocations of things seen, aesthetic reflections and accounts of emotional experiences. This work, which seeks to answer the question "Does the imaginary disintegrate or become stronger when confronted with the real?", offers a double journey, both exterior and interior, in the real - that of China, "a country of the real realized for 4,000 years" - and in thought" (Association Victor Segalen website).
