[ENLUMINATION] Four ornate initials from a choir book (gradual or antiphonary?). France, Paris (?), circa 1550. Fragments on parchment, Gothic script, music notated square on staves drawn in red ink. Good condition. Initial "C", initial size: 66x66mm; fragment size: 143x118mm. Burnished gold initial on a dark pink background with white highlights, border on a screened background with pink acanthus leaves outlined in white and small burnished gold disks. Initial "I", initial size: 68x68mm; fragment size: 152x138mm. Initial in burnished gold on mauve ground with white highlights, border on screened ground with mauve acanthus leaves outlined in white and small discs in burnished gold. Initial "L", initial size: 70x65mm; fragment size: 140x145mm. Initial painted in blue with white highlights on a burnished gold background with flower in the body of the letter, border on screened background with flower decoration and small burnished gold discs. Initial "N", initial size: 70x65mm; fragment size: 140x140mm. Initial painted in burnished gold on a pink background with white highlights, border on a riddled background with blue acanthus leaves and small discs in burnished gold.
