Jacques MAJORELLE (1886-1962). L.A.S., Dakar December 4, to a friend; 2 pages oblong in-4. Before leaving Dakar, he gives an update: "the 1st Round was to my advantage". He has sent his friend coffee and rice, as well as 30 calabashes: "as soon as you receive them, you can have fun experimenting with this container-suspension and plant whatever you like in it in light, well-drained soil - fern, asparagus or whatever". He hasn't seen many interesting trees: "It's mainly in the forest that I'll start looking horticulturally. Here it's poor. There are only those sacred black ones, which remain of unequalled splendor and gleam, and create untranslatable colorful gimmicks on the markets". He has been able to travel around the country "and here in Dakar alone there are marvels to paint that have never been expressed". As for his garden, it is "quite damaged by the wind"...
