Leaving for Brussels to embrace his son, he will be late for his New Year's visit to the ladies of the house: "I want to offer them my overdue engravings myself. There are four small plates, two for Mme Clapisson, two amica non serva, this year's & last year's, one for Mlle Aglaé & one for you, to the glory of Mr Clapisson père. [...] All this comes very late, but I came into the world at 9 ½ months & I am feeling it." He thanks for gifts for his entire household, and in particular his little Clairette, and hopes that "this year will not pass, my dear friend, without me making you a pretty drawing, not to acquit myself to you, for I wish to remain eternally your grateful debtor, but for the pleasure of seeing in your home a work of mine, holding a small place"...
