Marlene DIETRICH (1901-1992) L.A.S., Paris October 1944; 2 1 - Lot 33
Marlene DIETRICH (1901-1992) L.A.S., Paris October 1944; 2 1/2 in-8 pages pasted on cardboard with title banner: Un message de Marlène Dietrich..., framed. Magnificent statement from Marlene Dietrich, returning to Paris at the Liberation, probably intended to be clichéd for publication in a newspaper. "What a thrill to be back in Paris, which, believe me, hasn't changed a bit - I'm really happy and grateful to have been able to enlist in the American Army, which allows me to go and bring a little joy to the allied soldiers! When I'm singing at the front on a truck or in a barn, I take off my uniform and put on a sequined dress to give the soldiers a feminine presence and remind them that all the women of their countries are with them - in spirit"... Beneath the date and signature is a small bust portrait of Marlene Dietrich in uniform, by the young Alwyne Camble (1925-1977, illustrator, costume designer, decorator and couturier), 7 x 7 cm, ink and wash, signed by the artist in pencil.
