Gustave FLAUBERT (1821-1880). L.A.S., Croisset near Rouen August 24 [1867], to a writer; 3pages in-8 on blue paper. He found his brochure in Paris... "this little work so full of ideas pleases me infinitely. We share too many of the same aesthetic doctrines for there to be anything but sympathy between us. What an excellent fund there is in your work. How one senses that you have read and reflected! What I like in your criticism is the absence of any mannerism, of any bias, of any school. Do us a great book on this question: morality in art. What a service you would render!"... He would like to talk at length about the latest work of his correspondent, who may have left Bordeaux: "It seems to me that we have the beginnings of a friendship. I only ask to continue it"...
