Salomon REINACH (1858-1932). L.A.S. (initialled), [Paris Nov - Lot 132
Salomon REINACH (1858-1932). L.A.S. (initialled), [Paris November 25, 1898], to M. Gauckler, Director of Antiquities at the Musée du Bardo in Tunis; 1page in-12, addressed (letter-card, small tear repaired). On the subject of a statue, he suggests "adding to this Bacchus a cast of the head of one of his replicas. I have recently seen surprising results from the application of this perfectly legitimate and scientific system". On the Dreyfus affair: "Surrounded by people who tremble for Picquart and believe that the supreme forfeit is inevitable, I remain very optimistic and very sure of a reparation that will not be long in coming. But how? That's none of my business. It's like water that falls on a plateau, but ends up spreading over the plain: "One thing is certain: the water, tired by the obstacles, will never rise to the plateau"...
