John RUSKIN (1819-1900). L.A.S., Oxford November 14, 1872, t - Lot 136
John RUSKIN (1819-1900). L.A.S., Oxford November 14, 1872, to Sir James Coxe M.D.; 1page in-8 with vignette and Corpus Christi College letterhead; in English. Thanks Dr. James Coxe (1811-1878, alienist physician) for sending his pamphlet [On the Causes of Insanity and the Means of Checking its Growth]: "The conclusions in p. 26 are invaluable". He regrets that he didn't mention the connection between egotism and insanity, as no madman believes anyone else to be a prophet: "I wish you had said a word or two of the connection of Egotism with insanity. Nobody ever insaned believes anybody else to be a prophet"...
