Philippe SOUPAULT (1897-1990). 5 L.A.S. and 1L.S. "Philippe" - Lot 143
Philippe SOUPAULT (1897-1990). 5 L.A.S. and 1L.S. "Philippe", 1931-1961, to Marcel Thiébaut; 2pages and a half in-4, one envelope, and 4 illustrated postcards with addresses.
Friendly correspondence with the critic and director of the Revue de Paris.
Russia October 4, 1931: "Exciting but melancholy journey. I see a thousand things and feel in the air of Russia a persistent memory, explanations and also a terrible regret"... - Swarthmore College March 10, 1945: "You cannot know how much I wish to see you again and to be able to resume with you our talks of 1930-1938. I know that day will come [...]. I am doing as well as I can, although I have not yet fully recovered from the years of hardship and am still tired. But your friend Philippe is still very much the same, and I'm sure you'll find him as close to you as he ever was. I'm working day and night (that's not an exaggeration, as I sleep very badly) on the book I've written for you. And I don't hide from you that I attach great importance to it and that I want it to be a very good book (with Allah's blessing)". He recommends the American publisher Vitales Crespin: "During the terrible years, the publishing company of which Mr. Crespin is president made a considerable effort to ensure that French thought could continue to be expressed, in the United States as well as in all countries where French is spoken"... Friendly cards from Cairo (1949), Brazzaville (April 14 1951): "Equatorial heat, of course, and periodic downpours"...
