Marc Isambard BRUNEL (1769-1849) engineer. L.A.S., Dieppe De - Lot 154
Marc Isambard BRUNEL (1769-1849) engineer. L.A.S., Dieppe December 17, 1828, to M. Destigny, watchmaker in Rouen; 1 1/2 pages in-4, addressed (one edge a little frayed). Concerning engraved portraits that he is leaving with him in order to offer them for sale. They are of well-known figures, such as the Duc de W., or lesser-known ones such as "two distinguished ministers, the first the Lord Castlereah who was the English Minister who negotiated in 1814-15 & 1816 he ended by suicide. The second is Monsr Perceval an excellent man who was murdered in 1812 by a monomaniac". There is also his own portrait "which has been with the others for about 12 years in the hands of Mr. Fern, who never exhibited them for sale. None of these engravings belong to me, they were sent by the engraver Mr. Turner [...] Do what you can with them [...] The reason that has determined me to entrust you with this little matter is none other than to be able to report to the owner who speculated on my portrait that I have done all I could and all I could for his interests"...
