Albert SCHWEITZER. L.A.S., Gunsbach October 29, 1951, to the Governor General of A.E.F.; 2pages in-4 (slight tear).
Concerning a young American doctor, William Harvey Wyckoff, who wishes to come to Lambaréné as an assistant. Schweitzer asks the French Consulate in Rotterdam to grant him a favorable visa: "I will need this young colleague before Christmas, to relieve the other two doctors, who are somewhat tired from the hard work they have done over the last two months". Wyckoff is ready to fly out as soon as he gets his visa; "I myself will be back in Lambaréné around mid-December. I embark on the Foucauld on November 23, and it is important for me to be able to initiate the new collaborator into the service as soon as possible"... Attached (1page in-4) is Dr. Wyckoff's curriculum vitae, in Schweitzer's handwriting and signed by him.
