Fine proof on thin ivory vellum, dubbed on japon. Long horizontal tear between "painters" and "engravers". Several other fractures and short tears. Full margins. Provenance: Estate of Auguste Clot (1858-1936), lithographic printer. "In June 1896, Vollard took advantage of the inauguration of his new gallery at 6, rue Laffitte to organize a major exhibition devoted to painter-engravers. He thus created an event around the publication of his first album of prints. The exhibition was a success, but subscribers and enthusiasts were few and far between. Both collections were commercial failures. Vollard abandons his plans for a third album to follow on from them."
