Serge Gladky (1880-c. 1930) - Lot 215
Serge Gladky (1880-c. 1930) Jean Borlin. Poster. 1929. Lithograph. [555x785mm]. Printed in color. Very fine proof on vellum, doubled on white vellum and canvas-backed. Fine traces of folds (notably vertical median fold). Full margins. Jean Börlin (1893-1930) was a Swedish dancer. He was hired by Rolf de Maré's Ballets Suédois, the company that was then the main competitor of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. From 1920 onwards, he was principal dancer, teacher, ballet master and choreographer. Acclaimed by French critics, Börlin was considered the successor to Vaslav Nijinsky. Our poster is one of the dancer's last performances, as he died prematurely the following year, aged 37. The show in question is Le Cercle éternel, a ballet in two tableaux (choreography by Jean Börlin; music by Alexandre Tansman; sets and costumes by Serge Gladky).
