Three ingot-shaped plates decorated with phoenixes and peoni - Lot 40
Three ingot-shaped plates decorated with phoenixes and peonies, China, Kangxi period (1662–1722) Made of glazed porcelain in the “green family” color palette, these dishes have an elongated shape resembling a ingot, with sides molded in radiating gadroons and a slightly scalloped rim. The body is adorned with two phoenixes, depicted in flight on either side of branches of blooming peonies, accompanied by foliage and flower buds. The rim is punctuated by circular medallions alternating between stylized rosettes on a green background and coral-red geometric motifs on a gold background, connected by small flowering branches. The unglazed areas on the sides are adorned with small flowers, pomegranates, and finger-shaped lemons. The central design is surrounded by a frieze of stylized lingzhi mushrooms in iron red. The reverse side, which is glazed, is also decorated with flowering branches. Part of the underside of the plates is unglazed. 18.1 x 27 cm Chip marks and small chips around the rim; wear and scuffing on the enamel; signs of use and surface soiling; minor firing defects.
