Andō Hiroshige (Utagawa, 1797–1858), “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo” series—Meisho Edo hyakkei (名所江戸百景), Japan, 1856–1858 edition Nishiki-e print, ink and polychrome on paper, ōban tate-e format. Print: Fukagawa Susaki and Jūmantsubo (Fukagawa Susaki Jūmantsubo - 深川州崎十万坪). Depicting a bird of prey flying over the Susaki fields in Fukagawa. The falcon dives toward its prey in the snow-covered marshes below, known as Jūmantsubo because of their approximate area of one hundred thousand tsubo (about 33.06 hectares). The falcon’s imposing silhouette, viewed from a unique angle, accentuates the harshness of the snowy weather. Publisher: Uoya Eikichi. 32.4 x 21.1 cm (image size) Stains, minor damage at the bottom, mounted.
