Pierre-Samuel DU PONT DE NEMOURS (1739–1817). Autograph letter, New York, 21 Vendémiaire (October 13, 1801), to Senator Le Coulteux de Canteleu in Paris; half-page, quarto, with address. Regarding a dispute between the senator and Cherriot, which he has referred to arbitration. He has chosen Mr. Simond, “a very worthy man,” as arbitrator, and Cherriot has selected Thibault, who has a good reputation. “I am drafting a memorandum setting forth your rights. He is drafting another one on his side regarding his claims. We will submit them to the arbitrators along with the supporting documents.” The award will be rendered in six months. “They believed they needed this time”…
