Joseph LAKANAL (1762–1845). Letter from the author (L.A.S.), - Lot 49
Joseph LAKANAL (1762–1845). Letter from the author (L.A.S.), Villarceaux near Magny (Seine-et-Oise), December 13, 1811, to Mr. Bordier, a property owner in Paris; 2 pages, in-4 format, with address bearing postmarks and a red wax seal bearing his initials. The Banque de France must be convinced of Lakanal’s commitment to fulfilling his obligations, since, having been unable to locate a bill that was due to mature during his absence from Paris, he has taken steps to settle it without delay; “if you are still in possession of the last bill for 300 francs [...], I will have it paid to you, even before the due date”... He asks Bordier to “be sure to seal the letters you do me the honor of writing to me; this country is teeming with nosy people.” Enclosed is a letter signed as acting principal of the Lycée Bonaparte, also signed by Principal Binet and Censor Targé, 24 Vendémiaire XIV (October 16, 1804; 1 folio page with Lycée Bonaparte letterhead, addressed), to the Director General of Public Instruction, Antoine-François Fourcroy.
