A witty letter from an octogenarian. … “You know full well that you have undertaken the obligation to keep me alive until I am 100 years old. I am a lenient creditor; I’ll settle for 90. But to help me reach that age, you must provide me with good Burgundy wine and good Bordeaux wine, which are the milk of the elderly. [...] Have mercy, then, on my 84 years,” so that he might find another 25 bottles “hidden away in your fine, well-stocked cellar”… He would like to see Becheville again “before setting off for the Elysian Fields”…
