He requests to be included on the guest list for the dinner to be held at the Crystal Palace, where the issue of tariff reduction is to be discussed. He notes in the newspapers that the principle of promoting increased commercial relations between nations (“the more general principle of the promotion of increased commercial intercourse between nations”) has been adopted, and that an alliance has been announced with “the Trade Association of the Staffordshire Potteries” whose efforts are not confined to the freer exchange of goods with wine-producing countries, but with every nation that has a natural trade relationship with Great Britain (“whose efforts are not confined to the more free interchange of product with the winegrowing countries, but with every nation that has the natural means of trading with Great Britain”)…
