As editor of the *Décade philosophique*.
26 Fructidor, to the Citizen Directors of the *Envoi des Lois*: he asks them to send him “a copy of the documents published by the Directory in connection with the latest foiled conspiracy. “My intention is to print them in the *Décade Philosophique* in the edition that is to come off your presses”; he is counting on their patriotism to “spread the truths that must enlighten all French people regarding the maneuvers of Royalism.” – 18 Floréal, May 7, 1797, to Paul Ustery, a physician in Zurich, regarding payment for the last quarter of the *Décade Philosophique*, which had not been made by Mr. Luc Preiswerk of Basel. He hesitates to send him copies of Gibbon’s *Memoirs* on consignment, unsure how to recover the unsold copies, and reminds him that he receives a 25% discount from him. – 1st Prairial, Year VII (May 20, 1799): the verses (a translation of Homer) by his correspondent, which he intends to publish in the next issue of the *Décade Philosophique*, have been misplaced “either at my printing house or in my office”; he asks that “another copy be made, and I apologize for my own carelessness or that of my employees, for which I must take the blame”…
