Jean-Baptiste SAY (1767–1832). 3 letters, Paris 1819–1925, t - Lot 106
Jean-Baptiste SAY (1767–1832). 3 letters, Paris 1819–1925, to Charles Dupin of the Academy of Sciences; 4 pages, in-8 or in-4 format, addresses (one letter slightly soiled). May 14, 1819, expressing gratitude for the receipt of “your discourse on the Sciences”... – September 18, 1822, regarding their courses at the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers. Clément, having left for England, will be unable to attend the improvement committee meeting, if there is one: “It did not seem to me that he intended to challenge your course. All that was said between us regarding our next academic year is that, if we were to draw attention to ourselves, we might well be treated like the Collège de France and placed under the authority of Abbé Fraissinous, or abolished, as was done with the École Normale; that it was in our mutual interest not to utter a single sentence relating to politics and not to make a fuss in the newspapers”… – January 11, 1825: he asks Dupin “to announce in your lecture tomorrow that my course will resume next Friday. I’ve written this down on a small square of paper so that you won’t forget it”…
