Anne-Robert-Jacques Turgot (1727–1781). L.A., Limoges, Febru - Lot 153
Anne-Robert-Jacques Turgot (1727–1781). L.A., Limoges, February 4, 1770, to Antoine-Bertrand Caillard, legation secretary under the Count of Boisgelin, His Majesty’s Minister Plenipotentiary in Parma, in Paris; 1 page, in-4 format, addressed, with a red wax seal.
“It is still impossible for me, my dear Caillard, to send you the letter to Voltaire today [Turgot was writing to Voltaire under Caillard’s cover and the pseudonym of the Abbé de L’Aage]. At worst, if it does not reach you in time, you could have it sent from some Italian city, such as Genoa or Turin, by paying the postage. For it must not be sent from Parma. That would only make it seem more out of place. I will try, however, to send it to you by Friday’s mail, and I hope you will not have left yet. I eagerly await news from you and details of your meeting with Mr. de Boisgelin. […] I am taking this opportunity, courtesy of the Archbishop of Toulouse [Loménie de Brienne], to send you a ninth volume of *Ephemerides*”…
