Claude MONET. Autograph letter, Giverny, June 19, 1921, to A - Lot 235
Claude MONET. Autograph letter, Giverny, June 19, 1921, to Arsène Alexandre; 5 pages, in-8 format, on Giverny letterhead by Vernon Eure, written in pencil. Regarding his Water Lilies and their installation at the Orangerie. He had delayed replying to him, “but now I’ve regained my confidence, and despite my poor eyesight, I’ve thrown myself passionately back into my work; I don’t know how it will turn out, but I’m full of enthusiasm.” He had nothing but praise for the architect Louis Bonnier, but acknowledges “that he tends to inflate prices”; and if he recommended him to Paul Léon (Director General of Fine Arts), it is simply because he knows no other architect; the administration is perfectly free to consult someone else. Did Alexandre speak to Paul Léon about the expansion of the Orangerie? Monet “always fears bureaucratic delays. I need clarity all the more because I have received a serious request for certain parts of these decorations and must make a decision, even though I am doing my best to keep the best ones”…
