Jacques de LACRETELLE (1888–1985). Signed autograph manuscri - Lot 359
Jacques de LACRETELLE (1888–1985). Signed autograph manuscript, “Une fierté modeste” by Jean Schlumberger, [October 1968]; 5 pages, in-4 format, on *Le Figaro* letterhead (first page torn and previously repaired with tape). A tribute to Jean Schlumberger (who died on October 25, 1968), “the attentive and thoughtful writer, the judicious and frank advisor, the steadfast friend whom we have, alas, just lost. He was associated with the major literary movements of his time, including the founding of the *Nouvelle Revue Française* and the *Vieux Colombier*”… The tribute recalls his political and literary commitments, his talent as a novelist—one who belonged to no particular school—and praises his brilliant critical essays: “This writer, unassuming out of selflessness, was at the forefront of every struggle. Whether literary or otherwise, he was always present, without taking pride in it or deriving any profit other than that of fruitful reflection”… Included are 4 autograph manuscripts by Jean-Jacques Gautier: a tribute to his publisher René Julliard (1962), and three theater reviews from *Le Figaro*—on Charlie Chaplin and *Limelight*, on *Le Mime Marceau*, and on *Madame Filoumé* by Edoardo de Filippo.
