Slobodan MITROV (1919–1942), Yugoslav resistance fighter and - Lot 505
Slobodan MITROV (1919–1942), Yugoslav resistance fighter and activist during the Spanish Civil War. L.S., Gurs Camp, July 27, 1939, to his friend Drago; 1 typewritten page, quarto; in Serbian. After the defeat of the Republican side in Spain, Mitrov was interned, along with his fellow fighters, at the French camp of Gurs in the Pyrenees. He attempts to send his friend the information he has requested “regarding student participation in the Spanish Civil War.” He has not received the two letters his correspondent claims to have sent him, but will try to send him all the necessary data and information as soon as possible: “We have already tried to establish contact with you once by sending you a manifesto in French read by 200 international students from all over the world. […] Here at the camp, I am engaged in cultural and educational work […]. We are connected with one another as well as with our Spanish student comrades, who have their own organization (U.F.E.H.).” But the lack of everything makes the task difficult. At the camp, there is a great deal of interest in the student conference to be held next month in Rancho. He asks that documents about the conference be sent to him, along with *La voix des étudiants* (in Spanish or French), and other books... He hopes they will finally manage to establish a permanent connection and sends his regards to his comrade on behalf of all the interned students… At the bottom of the letter, Mirka Kovacevica added a few handwritten lines.
