GARY (Romain). - Lot 138
GARY (Romain). The Treasures of the Red Sea. Paris: Gallimard, [November 22, 1971]. — In-8, 195 x 135: 114 pp., (3 ff.), printed cover. Paperback. First edition, of which no large-format copies were produced. *The Treasures of the Red Sea* is an autobiographical account in which Romain Gary recounts his travels in the Red Sea region (Djibouti, Yemen) at the end of the colonial era. Through prose that is both lyrical and lucid, he explores the hostility of the lands he traversed, paints a critical portrait of French colonialism, and reveals the true “treasures”: intense human experiences and moments of brotherhood amid misery and violence. A very well-preserved copy. Without the dust jacket. Traces of a label on the inside back cover.
