French school circa 1800 after a late 16th century Florentine model Bacchus with panther Bronze statuette with brown patina H. 22 on black marble base H. 2.4 cm Related works : - Italy, probably Florence, Bacchus and a panther, 16th-17th centuries, bronze, H. 22.4 cm, New York, The Metropolitan museum, inv. 1982.60.99 ; - Italy, Bacchus with a panther, probably 16th-17th centuries, bronze, H. 23.2 cm, New York, The Metropolitan museum, inv. 32.100.190 ; - Anonymous, Bacchus, bronze, H. 23 cm, Stockholm, National museum, inv. NMSk 330. The model of this small bronze depicting Bacchus was long attributed to Francesco da Sant'Agata or to a late 16th-century Florentine workshop influenced by Cellini, then to the corpus of Barthélémy Prieur. Recently, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, which holds a copy, considered it to be Florentine of the 16th-17th centuries.
