Large wax seal of Frederick V of Habsburg (1415–1493). The e - Lot 197
Large wax seal of Frederick V of Habsburg (1415–1493). The emperor is seated on a large, ornately designed throne surmounted by a triple canopy; he is clad in the coronation mantle, wears a closed crown, and holds a large, fleur-de-lis-topped scepter and the orb. Eight shields surround the composition: two bear the coats of arms of the Holy Roman Empire and Austria; in the left field, two seated lions bear a shield of Lower Austria on their backs; below, a third lion bears a shield of Carinthia; above, a banner bears the inscription “aeiou” (alles Erdreich ist Österreich untertan: all the land is subject to Austria). On the right, following the same arrangement, a shield of Styria is placed above a shield of Carniola. On either side of the sovereign’s legs are engraved two shields representing Tyrol and the House of Habsburg. Reverse featuring the eagle of Tyrol in full view. Mid-15th century Diameter: 11.5 cm In a slipcase (damage and missing pieces)
