ALMANACH VIOLET, for the year 1798, containing a historical summary of the day of the 18th fruit tree; anecdotes; an adventure from the other world, some details on theophilantropes; a dialogue between two dead people; the letter of a famous thief; predictions for every month of the year, etc. etc. Paris: the merchants of novelties,[1797]. - In-18, blue embossed paperboard, gold roller on the edges of the plates, smooth back decorated ( early 19th century binding ). Rare almanac illustrated with an anonymous frontispiece representing deputies leaving the Temple, a disguised allusion to the tyranny of the government. We find related to the following: - Strenna to the friends of the eighteenth, or almanac For the year of grace: One thousand seven hundred and ninety-eight. Paris: Theophilantropes printing house, Year VII of the Royalist Almanac Republic, written by Abbot Guillon de Montléon . The text is entirely dedicated to the events of the 18 fructidor and opens with an epistle dedicated to "Polichinel" by Polichinelophilos . The edition is illustrated with a beautiful and amusing legendary plate "Muhammad-Theophilantrope ". Good copy in back binding. A few scattered freckles.
