Louis HERSENT (Paris, 1777 - 1860) The Bride of the King of Garbe Canvas On the stretcher, inscription in pen: "La courte paille 1825" and on the back of the frame: "Mona Lisa 61.8 x 50.5 cm From 1818 to 1819, Hersent published a series of ten lithographs illustrating the tales of La Fontaine. These saucy tales, which had largely inspired artists in the eighteenth century, Subleyras, Eisen or Fragonard, are an inexhaustible source for Hersent. The inscription "Mona Lisa" on the back of the frame shows that the painting had a counterpart and that the frames were exchanged.
