BRASSAÏ. - Lot 161
BRASSAÏ. Voluptés de Paris. Paris : Paris-publication, [1934]. - In-4, 270 x 210 : (20 ff.), printed cover. Bound with 5 white rings. First edition of this superb and now mythical album on the Parisian nights of the 1930s, including 38 black photographs by Brassaï (1899-1984), one of which is in the text and 37 full-page. This work was published by Victor Vidal without the photographer's knowledge. Brassaï felt betrayed and disowned this book, which did not correspond to what he wanted to do; moreover, he did not include it in the list of his works. It was only in 1976 that he published The Secret Paris of the 1930s, with the photographs accompanied by texts and captions. Rare copies, uncensored, include 46 photographs. Copy complete with white bakelite rings, which are sometimes missing. The first leaf is disbound and soiled. Provenance: Ex-libris M.D.
