[REVIEW]. Minotaure. Paris : Albert Skira, 1933-1939. - 13 issues in 11 fascicles bound in 3 volumes in-4, 305 x 243. Half parchment in the bradel style, smooth spine, silver head (modern binding). COMPLETE COLLECTION OF ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT SURREALIST LITERARY AND ARTISTIC REVIEWS. Published under the direction of Albert Skira and Tériade, it had for ambition to speak about all the cultural, artistic and scientific activities of the moment and thus "to find, to gather and to summarize elements which constituted the spirit of the modern movement to extend the radiation of it, and [...] (of) désencombrer the artistic ground to give again with the art in movement its universal rise" (publisher's announcement). The main contributors were some of the great names of the surrealist group such as André Breton, Paul Éluard, Pierre Reverdy, René Crevel, Tzara, etc. and each cover presents a composition designed by a different artist: Picasso, Gaston-Louis Roux, Derain, Bores, Duchamp, Miró, Matisse, Magritte, Ernst and Masson. All the issues offer nearly 1500 illustrations by numerous artists, some of whom were still unknown at the time. Thus alongside the first representations of Picasso's sculptures, there are compositions by Balthus, Bellmer, Giacometti, Ubac, Paalen, etc. The second cover of the second and eighth issue is missing, as well as the first 5 pages of issue 8, replaced by photocopies.
