Ryckebusch, in his Inventaire des ouvrages concernant l'île Bourbon... specifies that these can be counted on the fingers of one hand. EXEMPLAIRE ENRICHED AT THE END OF THE ALBUM COLONIE FRANÇAISE DU SÉNÉGAL composed of 10 lithographs by or after Hastrel, published between 1846 and 1848. It is also rare to find the complete collection, as it is the case here. The plates are captioned as follows: 1. view of the island of Gorée, arriving at the anchorage. - 2. landing stage of Gorée. - 3 A street in Gorée. - 4) Bazaar of the baobab square, in Gorée. - 5) Public well in Gorée. - 6 Grande Terre. The Creek of the Laundresses in Haan (Anse de Gorée). These plates are slightly smaller than those in the Bourbon Island album, 482 x 305 mm. They are also in black and white on a beige background. They do not include here a title leaf or a cover, but are introduced by a leaf on which the name "GORÉE" has been calligraphed and painted. Rubbing and spotting to the spine, corners dulled. The leaves and plates are as almost always affected by more or less strong freckles. Some plates are slightly browned. Light staining on the edges of the leaves and plates, without affecting the figures.
