DUFRENOY (Mrs. Adélaïde-Gillette, born Billet). WETZELL (Mrs - Lot 161
DUFRENOY (Mrs. Adélaïde-Gillette, born Billet). WETZELL (Mrs.). New primer for little gourmets. Revised by Mrs. Wetzell. Decorated with figures. J. Langlumé, publisher. 11, rue du Foin-Saint-Jacques. Paris. [About 1850]. In-16 (13,5 x 11,3 cm). 96 pp., 23 plates : publisher's black paper boards with flower motifs, stenciled lithograph (letter A) applied on the first plate in a gilt embossed frame. Very rare Abécédaire des petits gourmands in period colors and updated by Madame Wetzell. Twenty-five stories, mainly of culinary sweets, with a renewed illustration and illustrated initials. Twenty-four plates (including the one applied on the cover), lithographed and stenciled, take up the compositions of the engravings of 1822, but in a completely different style, much more lively. Some plates have gum arabic highlights. The captions also vary: Jalousie is replaced by Jujube, Nigauds by Nèfles, Palissade by Poires, Réveil by Raisin, Taches by Tartelettes, Y es-tu? by Yves, the x no longer has a plate and its initial appears at the end of Vin douX, no final Etcetera. Lithographs, not signed, sometimes attributed to Victor Adam. The plate of the letter U, Ultra-gourmand, carries the mention of the lithographer Becquet whose principal draftsman was Napoleon Thomas Only two copies referenced in libraries: Indiana University and Princeton University Library. A very well preserved copy with a small restoration on the spine.
