[ARNAULT DE NOBLEVILLE (Louis-Daniel) - SALERNE (François). - Lot 6
- In-12, calf jaspered, smooth spine decorated, red edges (period binding). Second edition of this treatise on the nightingale, written by physician and naturalist Louis-Daniel Arnault de Nobleville (1701-1778) in collaboration with his colleague François Salerne (1705-1760). The original appeared in 1751. It is one of the few early treatises on the subject, along with the one published by Venette in 1697. The edition is illustrated with two copper-engraved plates by Aubert, the first depicting a nightingale, inspired by an engraving from the Uccelliera by ornithologist Giovanni Pietro Olina (1622), and the second featuring cages and traps. A good copy in contemporary binding. Some spotting, corners dulled.
